Focusing on progress not perfection from now on.

Perfectionism is a double-edged sword. This desire to strive for excellence is met with this incessant need to be faultless. This has been my life for a very long time. It can be beneficial because you are constantly seeking improvement, but it is incredibly damaging if you can’t accept the flaws and mistakes that come with being human.

For a very long time, my ego made me believe I was driven and ambitious, but this year I came to realise, this drive was coming from a place of unrealistic expectations and a need to be perfect. I created unnecessary anxiety for myself due to setting impossible standards.

Dare I fail, my inner critic would be chastising me relentlessly. How does one escape their mind?

A place where nothing is ever enough.

*ahh, being vulnerable is not easy*.

Anyway, this is a new chapter. From now on, I am parting ways with the need to ‘have it all together’, to be flawless. Yes, I’ve possessed this frame of thinking for over a decade, but I am also responsible for changing my thought patterns when they no longer serve me.

Unraveling this tight knot is liberating.

I want to live, fully. Show up fully. And how can I without making mistakes? We are insaan (human), it is in our nature to make mistakes. I will trip and fall, but that is part of the journey.

We ought to want to do better, even 1% but I refuse to allow it to create unnecessary pressure in my life.

No more setting impossible standards.

My new perspective is to show up and do the best I can, treating myself whenever I feel I should.

Life is too short. It is impossible to enjoy life when we’re so focused on every minute mistake.

So I am undoing perfectionism one day at a time. How? By doing imperfect things daily.

On the one hand, we may be excited about what we are doing, but on the other, it’s like something is holding us back from thoroughly enjoying our life, work, relationships, and experiences. — Anjelica Ilovi
